Dental Implants

What Is a Dental Implant?

A Dental Implant is a small titanium screw that replaces the root portion of a missing tooth. Due to the compatible properties of titanium, a Dental Implant can fuse with the bone to become an anchor for the replacement tooth or teeth in either jaw.

Can An Implant Be Used For a Permanent Bridge?

Yes.

When Would a Dental Implant Be a Good Choice?

A Dental Implant, with a Crown, can be a good choice when there is damage to both the root and the tooth. A Dental Implant and Crown can provide a patient with a naturally looking, permanent replacement. The jawbone can shrink and make your face look older, without an implant or natural tooth structure. Through an X-Ray and a Dental Evaluation, the jaw bone is looked at to see if it can adequately support a titanium post. Certain chronic diseases may prevent having a Dental Implant, but healthy and older patients, healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, can usually receive Dental Implants. Implants allow you to eat and drink the foods you enjoy. Restoring your tooth or teeth in a permanent fashion can restore your smile and self-esteem.

Dr. Sunners is a patient, kind and competent Dentist. My 10 year old son was very concerned when he learned he needed a filling. He was consumed with anxiety anticipating his appt. Dr. Sunners called us at home in the evening to discuss what was going to happen well in advance and address my son’s concerns. On the day of the appt. he took great care to see that my son felt in control of the situation and everything went beautifully! Despite not being a pediatric dentist specifically, he continues to provide excellent care to all three of our children -in addition to my husband and myself.
